Gini's China Roses

Ducher (1869, china)

Old Blush (1752, china)

Until the China rose gene was identified the only cultivated roses reportedly providing repeat bloom were Autumn Damasks. The blooms of China blooms were discovered to darken with age instead of fading and their colors included yellows and crimsons that had not been seen before. China roses when crossed with other roses provided broader fragrance to the "traditional" rose scents. It was determined Old Blush gave a pepper scent to its crossed-offspring.

My thanks to Gini Holter - Allen, Texas for her beautiful China rose photos.
